Fog rolls over iconic red towers as cable cars climb impossibly steep hills. I’ll never forget munching sourdough bread bowls filled with clam chowder while watching sea lions bark and play at Pier 39.

The colorful Victorian houses known as ‘Painted Ladies’ create the perfect backdrop for photos.

When I visited last summer, I accidentally called a trolley a ‘cable car’ and a friendly local spent twenty minutes explaining the difference! Anyone else find it impossible to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge without humming the Full House theme song?

2. Santa Fe, New Mexico

Santa Fe dazzles with its vibrant blend of history, art, and culture set against the dramatic backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Every corner bursts with colorful adobe architecture, bustling plazas, and world-class galleries showcasing everything from traditional Native American crafts to cutting-edge contemporary art. The aroma of freshly roasted chiles fills the air, inviting you to savor the bold flavors that define New Mexican cuisine.

Whether wandering through the historic Plaza, exploring intriguing museums, or sampling bold Southwestern flavors, Santa Fe is full of discovery. Every sunset feels like a celebration, casting fiery hues over a city steeped in creativity and tradition.

3. Chicago, Illinois

Gleaming skyscrapers reflect in the vast blue mirror of Lake Michigan while the L train rumbles overhead. The Windy City combines architectural marvels with Midwestern friendliness, creating an approachable metropolis that feels both grand and welcoming.

I made the rookie mistake of calling deep dish pizza a “casserole” within earshot of locals and nearly started a civil war! Cloud Gate (aka “The Bean”) creates the most fascinating reflections, though trying to take a photo without strangers in it requires Olympic-level patience.

Chicago’s nickname had me packing for gale-force winds, but I learned it actually refers to long-winded politicians. Anyone else spend way too long deciding between Chicago and New York style pizza?

4. Savannah, Georgia

Spanish moss drapes from ancient oak trees like nature’s own chandeliers over cobblestone streets. The city’s historic squares offer peaceful retreats where you can sit on a bench and watch the world go by while sipping sweet tea.

During my visit, I joined a ghost tour that had me both laughing and looking over my shoulder all evening. The guide swore my ‘orb-filled’ photos weren’t dust but friendly spirits! Savannah’s open container laws meant I could enjoy my cocktail while strolling through the beautiful historic district – talk about civilized sightseeing!

5. Seattle, Washington

Coffee steam rises from countless cafés as rain gently taps against windows overlooking Puget Sound. Seattle, the Emerald City, offers a captivating blend of sleek city life and wild natural beauty.

From the bustling energy of Pike Place Market to misty views from Kerry Park, it’s a place where creativity thrives and mountains frame every skyline shot. Despite the drizzle, you’ll notice hardly anyone carries an umbrella, Seattleites prefer to pour themselves into the moment, rain or shine.

6. New York City, New York

Yellow cabs honk their way through concrete canyons while diverse crowds hustle along sidewalks that never sleep. The energy here is palpable, a constant buzz that makes even mundane errands feel like adventures.

My first Broadway show left me speechless, but finding my hotel afterward had me speaking plenty of colorful language! I once accidentally ordered a ‘regular coffee’ and received what seemed like a gallon of caffeine with mysterious ‘milk and sugar already added.’

The locals move with such purpose that I felt like I was in a human NASCAR race just walking to the subway. Ever notice how New Yorkers can spot tourists from a mile away?

Palm trees sway beneath volcanic ridges as turquoise waves kiss golden shores, creating a postcard-perfect blend of tropical beauty and urban energy. Honolulu offers a unique fusion of Polynesian culture, world-class beaches, and vibrant city life.

Sunset views from Waikiki, the sound of ukuleles drifting on the breeze, and the mouthwatering scent of Hawaiian BBQ make this city more than just a beach getaway, it’s an experience that lingers long after the tan fades. And yes, here, Spam is not just food… It’s a cultural treasure.

Horse-drawn carriages clip-clop past pastel-hued mansions and flickering gas lanterns, echoing a bygone era in every step. The scent of blooming magnolias and jasmine drifts through the air as visitors stroll cobblestone streets lined with wrought-iron gates and hidden gardens.

Charleston weaves together Southern charm, coastal elegance, and centuries of history, from haunting tales whispered on evening tours to the lively hum of Lowcountry cuisine shared over oysters and sweet tea. Every corner feels like a story waiting to unfold.

Guitar riffs spill from doorways along streets filled with food trucks and outdoor patios buzzing with conversation. This eclectic capital city marches to its own drumbeat, proudly embracing its unofficial slogan to “Keep Austin Weird.”

I witnessed the spectacular emergence of 1.5 million bats from under Congress Bridge at sunset – nature’s own rock show! The breakfast tacos ruined all other breakfast foods for me forever.

During my visit, I accidentally wandered into what I thought was a small music venue but turned out to be someone’s backyard party, but they invited me to stay anyway! Has anyone else noticed how Austinites can make waiting in a three-hour line for barbecue sound like a fun social activity?

Bicycle bells echo through vibrant neighborhoods filled with craft breweries, indie bookstores, and cafés where every pour-over is brewed with precision.

Towering in the distance, Mount Hood adds a dramatic backdrop to a city that thrives on creativity and contradiction.

Portland may be known for its “weirdness,” but its charm lies in its unapologetic individuality, where sustainability is second nature, and everyone seems to be an expert on coffee, composting, or both.

11. Boston, Massachusetts

Cobblestone streets wind through historic neighborhoods where Revolutionary landmarks meet cutting-edge innovation.

Along the Charles River, Boston unfolds as a walkable blend of colonial charm and modern energy. It’s home to prestigious universities, passionate sports fans, and world-class museums.

The city’s famously twisting streets defy logic, but every turn offers a new discovery, from hidden bookshops to ivy-covered campuses. Even the accent adds character—here, “park the car” becomes a crash course in the local language.

Palm trees sway against endless blue skies while surfers catch waves along golden beaches. This laid-back coastal city offers perfect weather year-round, creating an outdoor paradise where flip-flops are acceptable footwear for almost any occasion.

I spent an afternoon watching sea lions sunbathe at La Jolla Cove – they’re basically ocean puppies with better tans! The fish tacos ruined me for all other fish tacos for life.

During my visit, locals kept telling me it was “so cold” at 65 degrees while I was practically melting coming from the East Coast winter. Ever notice how San Diegans measure distance in minutes rather than miles? “Oh, the beach is just 15 minutes away” – in which direction?!

13. Denver, Colorado

Snow-capped Rocky Mountains tower behind this mile-high city where sleek city living blends effortlessly with rugged outdoor adventure. With crisp mountain air and over 300 days of sunshine, Denver buzzes with energy, from downtown breweries to scenic hiking trails just minutes away.

At Red Rocks Amphitheatre, music and nature collide in an unforgettable symphony of sound and scenery. Locals proudly sport hiking boots with their office wear and treat outdoor gear like a fashion staple. In Denver, high altitude living isn’t just a lifestyle, it’s a badge of honor.

Art deco buildings in candy-colored pastels glow under the tropical sun as salsa rhythms spill from open doorways and the bold aroma of Cuban coffee drifts through the air.

Miami pulses with a vibrant blend of Latin, Caribbean, and American cultures, creating a city that feels more like a nonstop celebration than a destination. From sun-soaked beaches to electric nightlife, every corner invites you to dance, indulge, and live a little louder. In Miami, time moves to its own beat, and somehow, it all just works.

Guitar strums and soulful voices pour from honky-tonks lining Broadway as neon lights illuminate the streets where music legends were born. This friendly southern city balances country music heritage with a booming food scene and creative energy.

I accidentally walked into a songwriter’s round and heard tomorrow’s hit being performed by someone in jeans and a t-shirt! Hot chicken nearly burned a hole through my taste buds, but I couldn’t stop eating it.

The locals call their city “Nash-vegas” with equal parts pride and irony. I counted seven bachelorette parties in one block – all wearing matching cowboy boots and sashes. Ever wonder why everyone in Nashville seems to own a guitar, even if they don’t play?

16. Anchorage, Alaska

Mountain ranges cradle this northern frontier city, where moose casually wander downtown and the summer sun lingers late into the night.

Anchorage is Alaska’s beating heart, a gateway to epic wilderness adventures, towering glaciers, and wildlife encounters, all wrapped in a surprisingly modern package. From midnight hikes under a golden sky to fresh-caught salmon dinners downtown, it’s a city where nature and culture meet in the most unforgettable ways.

Just be warned: once you visit, you might find yourself totally moose-merized. Anchorage doesn’t just welcome adventure, it practically insists on it.

17. Las Vegas, Nevada

Neon lights transform the desert night into day as fountains dance to music and replicas of world landmarks line the famous Strip. This adult playground operates 24/7, creating a surreal bubble where time seems irrelevant and everyday rules don’t apply.

I once got completely lost inside a casino trying to find the exit – turns out that’s by design! My attempt to stick to a gambling budget lasted approximately 45 minutes.

The contrast between the air-conditioned casinos and the desert heat outside creates a climate shock that’s like walking between different planets. Did you know there’s a saying that “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” because cell phone reception used to be so bad your photos wouldn’t send? Now it’s just an excuse for questionable decisions!
